School Rumble is a manga series written by Kobayashi Jin, and serialised weekly in Shonen Magazine. There are 20 manga volumes available published by Kodansha as of March 2008.

The cover of each manga volume always features one or more of the School Rumble characters. Thus far, these characters have appeared on the covers: Tsukamoto Tenma, Tsukamoto Yakumo, Sawachika Eri, Suou Mikoto, Ichijou Karen, Harima Kenji, Hanai Haruki, Osakabe Itoko, Sarah Adiemus, Anegasaki Tae, Tougou Masakazu, a group shot of: Nishimoto Ganji, Yoshidayama Jirou, and Nara Kentarou on volume 12, both Tsukamoto Tenma and Harima Kenji on volume 13, Hanai Haruki and Suou Mikoto on volume 14 and Tsukamoto Yakumo and a shadowy Harima Kenji on volume 15. Volume 16 features a grey-tone Harima and a chibi devil Eri while volume 17 is dominated by Eri and Yakumo with a chibi Tenma peeking out from behind Eri.

The have been some curiosities with the manga covers. Firstly, fans wondered why Takano Akira, one of the 5 main School Rumble girls, has yet to get her own cover. Secondly, fans wondered why Harima's pose on the volume 6 cover is identical to Mikoto's pose on the volume 4 cover, right down to the arm positions.

The chapters are labelled with musical symbols. The main chapters are labelled using the sharp symbol (#). The side chapters are either labelled using the flat symbol (♭) or the natural symbol (♮). The chapter titles are all in English, based on movie titles, song titles, or popular sayings.

The Chapter Titles "Too Hot to Handle" and "Some Came Running" are both used for two different chapters in the manga.
