The School Rumble anime is based on a manga series written by Kobayashi Jin and published in Shonen Magazine. As of 2006 two seasons and two OVAs have been produced.

The Season 1 Episodes of School Rumble the anime covers the manga from chapter #1 to chapter #100. The first season contained 26 episodes, each approximately 23 minutes long.

The opening song for episode is entitled "Scramble (スクランブル)", performed by Yui Horie with UNSCANDAL.

The ending song for episodes 1-25 and OVA 2 is entitled "Onna no Ko♥Otoko no Ko" (オンナのコ♥オトコのコ), "Girls ♥ Boys", performed by Yuko Ogura.

  • Koi no Kimochi: The all time popular Yakumo insert theme song that was played in Episode 4 during her introduction. [ Lyrics Here ]
  • Feel My Feeling: This is most likely considered to be Eri's theme song because it was played during her feature episode in Episode 8, and is also sung by Horie Yui, her voice actress. [ Lyrics Here ]
  • Punk Bung Heart: A song on Cafe Erucado's playlist. It plays in the background when the girls are meeting to discuss their love affairs in Episode 9. [ Lyrics Here ]
  • Kimi e ~ Kaze ni Nosete~: The song that plays in the background when Harima awaits Tenma's answer to his love letter in Episode 10. This song is sung by Hiroki Takahashi (Harima Kenji's seiyuu).
  • Amai Yume: The touching insert song that plays in Episode 15 when Eri remembers her first meeting with Mikoto. The song ends when Eri meets up with Mikoto above the hill behind Yagami Temple, where they promised to watch fireworks together. [ Lyrics Here ]
  • Best Friend: This is the beautiful music that plays at the end of Episode 19, and has been the song seeked by everybody who has watched the episode. It is available in full by buying the School Rumble Image Album #7 Sarah Adiemus.
  • School Rumble 4 Ever: The ending song for Episode 26 is a joint by the School Rumble girls including Koshimizu Ami (Tenma), Nabatame Hitomi (Mikoto), Shimizu Kaori (Akira), Noto Mamiko (Yakumo), Horie Yui (Eri), Fukui Yukari (Sarah) and Nanri Yuuka (Karen).

The two OVA Episodes cover a number of side chapters from the manga that were not covered in season 1. In addition, some original scenes not found in the manga were added that take place at an onsen just after the events of Episode 16.

School Rumble Semester 2 (二学期 - Ni Gakki) or what is officially the second season of School Rumble first airs in Japan on April 2, 2006. The total number of episodes has not been made officially known, but it is believed to be at least 13 episodes long from the available airing schedule. School Rumble Semester 2 is broadcasted on a number of stations. The first broadcast date varies depending on station. All times are GMT+9 or Japan local time.


The Japanese TV airing schedules uses an unusual time convention that is longer than the typical 24 hour system used internationally. For example, (April 2nd 25:30) would be written in standard time as (April 3rd 01:30AM). Episodes are shown regularly on a weekly basis from their first airing date. For example, episode 2 would air on TV Tokyo on Sunday, April 9, 2006.

The opening and ending song are both performed by Tokito Ami (時東あみ).

The OP is entitled "Sentimental Generation" (せんちめんたる じやんえれ〜しよん).

The ED song is "Kono Namida ga aru kara Tsugi no Ippo to naru" (この涙があるから次の一歩となる), meaning "Because of these tears I can take another step forward".

The second ED song is "Futari ha Wasurechau" performed by Koshimizu Ami and Noto Mamiko.

  • Crossing Over: The fast paced song Ichijou Karen sings in Episode 2 during her Band practice, and turns out to fit in perfectly with the action from the Survival Game. The song is actually sung by LIA, who is not Karen's seiyuu.
  • Feel Like a Girl: The second slower and more sentimental song Karen sings in Episode 2. Adds perfectly to the Romeo and Juliet scene between Kido Madoka and Umedu Shigeo. This song is again sung by LIA, although it is shown to be by Ichijou Karen in the anime.
